We just launched a new three-year strategic plan at Health In Harmony. It’s a roadmap for action at a moment when the planet cannot afford to wait. It’s our commitment to the communities we stand alongside and to you: our partners, advisers, and donors.

Sabrina Simon, PhD, Health In Harmony’s Research & Evaluation Associate, tells us a story of love and planetary health during a visit to the Darién rainforest, Panama, during Dr. Simon’s field work with HIH.

In Madagascar, rainforest communities face severe food insecurity. Health In Harmony and local HIH Collective partner FAMI have been collaborating with local communities and the Madagascar Biodiversity Center to develop an innovative solution: Black Soldier Fly farming. This innovative approach to nutrition and agriculture is tackling food insecurity head-on, as well as fallout effects such as deforestation and the hunting of endangered wildlife.

We are tremendously excited to step into 2026 beside you, as well as the rainforest communities we work alongside in Brazil, Panama, Madagascar, Indonesia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As we edge closer to crucial climate tipping points, we stand resolute in our goal of protecting 20 million hectares of climate-critical rainforest by 2030.

Health In Harmony’s collaboration with photographer Stefan Dotter began in the Brazilian Amazon in 2021. Since then, alongside Health In Harmony, Dotter has documented his time among rainforest communities in the Amazon, Borneo, and Madagascar, through portraiture, action shots of local wildlife and remarkable landscapes.

For two and a half weeks, Conservation Program Manager Mahardika Putra Purba and ASRI Forest Monitoring Coordinator Agus Supianto immersed themselves in the daily work of HIH’s Madagascan affiliate FAMI-HIH. Here, they report on their trip.

High levels of E. coli have been detected in drinking water near Madagascar's Manombo Special Reserve, according to a new watershed-level study published in Environmental Challenges. Led by Duke University researchers with support from Health In Harmony and local partners, the research establishes a critical dry-season baseline for water quality in southeastern Madagascar.

Despite being barred from the negotiation rooms, Indigenous Peoples also achieved the most significant advances in Brazilian land demarcation in 20 years.
