One year after the launch of the FAGNIMBOGNA project in the Ikongo district, in south-eastern Madagascar, residents of rural communities, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Health In Harmony – Fahasalamana Mirindra (HIH-FAMI) and Ny Tanintsika are presenting the initial results of an initiative combining health, the environment, access to water, education and livelihoods.

Research has resulted in the establishment of the world’s largest BSF farm in Madagascar, while highlighting strong community acceptance of BSF foods, pointing to their potential to transform food systems.

High levels of E. coli have been detected in drinking water near Madagascar's Manombo Special Reserve, according to a new watershed-level study published in Environmental Challenges. Led by Duke University researchers with support from Health In Harmony and local partners, the research establishes a critical dry-season baseline for water quality in southeastern Madagascar.

As world leaders prepare for COP30 in Brazil this November, Indigenous communities protecting the world's tropical rainforests too often have been telling their conservation stories through intermediaries, researchers, NGOs, and filmmakers from outside their communities. A groundbreaking new partnership is changing that dynamic, training forest guardians to become filmmakers and document their own realities in their own words.

New research published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers demonstrates that Black Soldier Fly (BSF) frass – the organic waste produced by BSF larvae – can significantly boost maize production in southeastern Madagascar. The study, conducted by researchers from the Madagascar Biodiversity Center (MBC) and Health In Harmony (HIH), reveals that composted BSF frass increased maize yields by 38% compared to traditional cattle manure, offering a sustainable pathway to address food insecurity in the region.

Thanks to a new $2.5 million grant from Rippleworks, Health In Harmony will expand to serve more than 65,700 people across 312 communities in critical biodiversity hotspots. This investment will enable HIH to significantly scale its groundbreaking community-led conservation model.

A transformative initiative in the Brazilian Amazon is protecting nearly 400,000 hectares of rainforest while helping local communities build sustainable livelihoods. With support from HIH and partners, the Rio Novo community and Rio Iriri Resex are bringing Brazilian fruits and nuts to local and international markets.

ASRI, the Indonesian affiliate of Health In Harmony, is pleased to announce it has received more than $30,000 in funding through Ashden’s Thriving Forests program. This initiative, supported by the Nature Recovery Project, aims to protect or restore one million hectares of forest across Africa, Asia, and South America, creating a critical defense against climate change. The Rockefeller Foundation has announced a major new $500,000 grant to Health In Harmony to catalyze private sector investments toward climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.

In the Xingu River Basin, in the Brazilian Amazon, SAMA–Health In Harmony is honored to have been collaborating with the Terra do Meio Network since 2020. A key strand of this work, borne out of Radical Listening sessions with Indigenous communities in the region, focuses on livelihoods and forest economies.

Health In Harmony has launched ACT NOW for Healthy People and a Healthy Planet to drive donations to expand our work providing healthcare that protects people and rainforests globally.

Together, Health In Harmony’s new Co-CEOs will work on executing scale and global advocacy –  the main strategy of HIH’s mission.

In an exciting strategic partnership launched with the Indonesian Ministry of Health (MoH) in 2023, HIH and ASRI will work alongside MoH to scale the HIH and ASRI model of investment in community-designed solutions across Indonesia.
