Stephen Cornish

Stephen Cornish is the former Director General of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Geneva. He previously served as Executive Director of MSF Canada and Chief Executive Officer of the David Suzuki Foundation. Dr Stephen brings a few decades of senior humanitarian leadership and conflict expertise, including managing large-scale emergency interventions, negotiating humanitarian access, and leading responses to aid-worker abduction and security crises. Stephen has held governance and advisory roles, including serving on the board of CANADEM & MSF Canada, and previously worked with the Canadian Red Cross and CARE Canada in senior program and advocacy roles. He holds a Master’s degree in Global Risk and Crisis Management and a post-graduate diploma in Conflict Resolution, and speaks English, French, Spanish, and basic Russian. His work has been published in academic and policy journals, and he is a regular public commentator and speaker on humanitarian action, environmental issues, civilian protection, and global crises.
