Laetania Belai Djandam
Laetania Belai Djandam is a young Indigenous climate justice advocate from the Dayak Ngaju-Ma’anyan tribe in Indonesia. She has long been active in climate and health advocacy across local, national, and international platforms, grounded in the intergenerational wisdom of protecting both nature and culture. Building on her earlier role as the inaugural Chair of the Associate Board, Belai currently supports Health in Harmony’s advocacy efforts in championing rainforest community-led solutions, reimagining climate and health policy beyond colonial and siloed systems, and centering Indigenous leadership in global decision-making.
Alongside her family, Belai co-leads Indigenous rights advocacy efforts focused on protecting Dayak ancestral lands and nurturing cultural resilience through storytelling and community organizing. She has also worked with health systems across Southeast Asia to develop climate-resilient, sustainable, and equitable models of care, and served as a Collaborator with the Land Body Ecologies, an Indigenous-led research initiative exploring the deep links between land, health, and cultural identity.
Outside of work, Belai finds joy in community-building and reconnecting with her roots through traditional Dayak dance and music. She is a singer and sapek player, carrying forward stories and lived experiences through sound, movement, and presence.
